5 common mistakes people make when buying a gaming PC

Buying a gaming PC is about much more than just the graphics card in the machine. Many pre-built PCs look powerful on paper, but contain components that create problems with performance, temperatures, and future upgrades.

Here are five common mistakes many people make when buying a gaming PC – and why it's important to choose right from the start.

For each power supply

The power supply is the heart of the PC, but at the same time one of the most underestimated components. Many pre-built PCs use cheap, low-quality power supplies to keep costs down. This can lead to instability, high temperatures, and in the worst case, damage to the components. A good PSU provides stable power, better longevity, and the possibility for future upgrades.

2. Poor RAM configuration

Many believe that the amount of RAM is the only thing that matters, but speed and configuration are at least as important. We often see gaming PCs with only one RAM stick installed instead of two, which can significantly reduce performance. Incorrect speed or poor compatibility between RAM and motherboard can also negatively affect FPS and response time.

3. For small SSD

Modern games are getting bigger every year. A small 500GB SSD is no longer enough if you play several big titles at the same time. Many quickly find that storage space is full after just a few installations. A fast and large enough SSD also improves loading times, system responsiveness, and the entire user experience.

4. Bottleneck between CPU and GPU

One of the most common mistakes is an imbalance between the processor and graphics card. A powerful graphics card combined with a weak processor means the PC will never reach its full potential. The same applies the other way around. To achieve maximum gaming performance, the components must be balanced and optimised for each other.

5. Poor cooling

Cooling is crucial for both performance and longevity. Many pre-built PCs have poor airflow and cheap cooling solutions that cause components to overheat. As temperatures rise, performance is automatically reduced to protect the hardware. The result is lower FPS, increased noise levels, and a shorter lifespan for the PC.

At Gameify, we build gaming PCs with a focus on quality, balance, and long-term performance. With over 25 years of experience, we select components that work optimally together, ensuring each PC is tested, optimised, and ready for true Plug & Play right out of the box.
